Shawn and I went to Takara House for all-you-can-eat Japanese dinner:

I actually like that Takara House offers different pricing options for their all-you-can-eat dinners by the amount of sashimi you want to order (all-you-can-eat without sashimi is $10.99 per person). You'd think that it'd be more worth it to pay the usual $19.99 that most other Japanese buffet places charge and get unlimited sashimi, but realistically, most people can't take that much raw fish in one sitting, anyway (I personally start to feel sick and want to gag). Shawn and I opted for the all-you-can-eat dinner with 12 pieces of sashimi each for $13.99. I thought that was way more worth it because that's as much sashimi as I want to eat while leaving room for other things, too.

Takara House offers a lot of different varieties of sushi and maki, as well as a ton of cooked dishes (noodles, rice, tempura, teriyaki, etc.), and I did notice that their menu is far more extensive than most all-you-can-eat Japanese buffets. I wouldn't say that the quality of the food is phenomenal, but it's decent, especially for the price. The service could have been more attentive and efficient; there was only one waiter and one cook serving the entire place (approximately eight tables), so it's understandable, but they really need to hire more help. Overall, I had a decent experience, but I do think it's kind of ridiculous that we had to wait 20 minutes before the waiter came to our table. And that they totally forgot to make/bring about three or four items that we had ordered. That having been said, the food is worth the price.

  1. Oh, I looove salmon roses. I used to think they were exclusive to Taste of Japan at Woodbine and, erm... Steeles? IDK. But then I realize that I wasn't that fancypants and most restaurants had them.

  2. Haha, salmon roses are so good... But the ones at Takara House aren't that great. They're kinda small and wimpy. I used to go to Taste of Japan (at Woodbine and John/Esna Park) exclusively for all my Japanese food needs, 'cause I lived so close to there... Mmmm. I think the best salmon roses I've had so far are at Kaze (at Woodbine and 16th). Just so much salmon... and they were huuuuge. :D
