Y'all, I finally got the Malaysian beef brisket curry and roti that I've been craving FOR A WEEK, and it was everything I dreamed of and more. (Don't even care that I've had curry for two days in a row, it's so damn good.)

Dinner at Chef Papa Tea & Noodle Bar: Malay laksa soup with udon noodles, Japanese BBQ pork, fish puffs, bok choy, and a soft-boiled egg. Because I am not celebrating noodle soup season enough.

It's actually feeling like fall now, which means it's hoodie weather, which also means it's officially NOODLE SOUP SEASON! (The best season, really.) Thus, Malay laksa noodle soup for dinner. Piping hot with egg noodles, shrimp, fish balls, chicken, egg, and just the right amount of spice. The perfect meal for cold weather.

Was hardcore craving roti today, so I went to Le Viet for dinner with Maegan and Jason and got some with beef brisket curry. People come here for the pho but they are seriously sleeping on their roti. It's one of the best I've ever had. And the portion is big enough that it ends up being two meals. (Guess what my lunch will be tomorrow?) So worth it.

After having such a heavy lunch at Balthazar, we wanted something lighter for dinner. My mom was really craving noodle soup and I had vetoed pho because I eat so much of it in Toronto, so my brother took us to Jaya, which is a Malaysian, Chinese, and Thai restaurant. We decided on four dishes:

The food was really tasty, but my favourite dish of the night was by far the Chilean sea bass. Many Chinese restaurants steam fish in soy sauce, ginger, parsley, and green onions; in fact, it's probably one of the most basic, classic ways to cook fish in Chinese culture. But the Chilean sea bass was so fresh, so tender, so buttery — it would've been a waste to cook the fish in any other way than the most simple, and with the most simple ingredients. I find cooking fish this way really makes the flavour and texture of it stand out more, and I seriously can't remember the last time I loved cooked fish this much. The noodle soups were also really good, flavourful and full of goodies in a generous portion, and will definitely satisfy any noodle cravings. Jaya is worth checking out for cheap, tasty Asian dishes — and it's definitely one of the nicer restaurants that Chinatown has to offer.
