Unboxing: BTS x Despicable Me 4 Figures

on
Sunday, April 27, 2025
So, um, I pre-ordered these last August and they shipped out in December to my Korean forwarding address... and I kinda forgot about them until my BTS Island figures arrived. So I realize this unboxing is exceptionally late, but they're all still available for purchase so this post isn't completely redundant yet!

BTS x Despicable Me 4 Figures — Outer Boxes

To be honest, I'm not like, a die-hard Despicable Me fan, so I didn't even know a fourth movie was coming out until this collaboration was announced. And even then, I wasn't really sure how BTS was related to this movie franchise. (I looked it up: there's a new character in DM4 named Poppy Prescott who loves BTS. Which is fair. She has a BTS phone case and a "Butter" poster on her wall, and they also play "Dynamite" in one of the scenes.) But I've always loved the Minions, so when I saw that they were releasing figures that featured BTS as Minions in the "Permission to Dance" MV outfits, I had to get my hands on them. Resistance was futile.

All the figures come packaged in yellow (Minion yellow, if you will) with clear cellophane windows in the front. Each member has his own distinct box with his name and his Minion character illustration on the front. Each figure comes with a white foot stand. The figures measure 6.6cm to 7.8cm tall, and are made of PVC and ABS plastics. Each figure retails for ₩32,000 or $25.18 USD on Weverse Shop Global (and, as mentioned, they are shockingly all still available for purchase!).

Now, granted, unless you're very familiar with BTS' "Permission to Dance" MV, you probably won't be able to tell which BTS member is which in their Minion form. But I will say that the designers really got down the hair and outfits to a T so any ARMY will be able to recognize these fellas as BTS, and that is what counts. (Also, these are just cute AF. Funko also released BTS x Despicable Me 4 figures, but they actually look kinda creepy so I'm still debating whether I will get them or not. We shall see. The BTS figure collector in me might cave.)

Unboxing: BTS Island: In the SEOM — BTS Island Figures V2

on
Sunday, April 20, 2025
So, I finally got around to unboxing Version 2 of the BTS Island: In the SEOM BTS Island Figures. I pre-ordered them last October (yes, six months ago) and they were officially released this February, but I got them shipped to my Korean forwarding address and didn't end up shipping them out until a couple weeks ago, so here we are.

BTS Island: In the SEOM is BTS' match-3 mobile game that was released in June 2022, and the characters — which are based on the 7 members of BTS, obviously — are sickeningly adorable, so it was only a matter of time before merchandise for it was released. If you're a BTS figure collector, then you'll know that the first version of the BTS Island: In the SEOM figures came as a set which could be displayed separately or together on an "island base." This second version features the 7 member characters on separate bases, like the TinyTAN figures.

All the figures come packaged in purple boxes with clear cellophane windows in the front. Each member has his own distinct box with his name and his character illustration on the front. Each figure comes with a matching stand with the name of the respective member on the base and a sticker background each to decorate the stand. The figures measure 5.5cm to 7.7cm tall, and are made of PVC and ABS plastics. Each figure retails for ₩27,000 or $21.24 USD on Weverse Shop Global (and, as of this post, the majority of them are shockingly still available for purchase!).

BTS Island: In the SEOM — BTS Island Figures V2 — J-Hope in "On the Street," Jimin in "Like Crazy," V in "Slow Dancing," and Jungkook in "Seven"

So, instead of one cohesive theme, Version 2 of the BTS Island Figures actually features each member with their solo work. More specifically, each member's title track music video from a solo project:

  • RM in "Wild Flower" (Indigo)
  • Jin in "The Astronaut" (The Astronaut)
  • Suga in "Haegeum" (D-DAY)
  • J-Hope in "On the Street" (Hope on the Street)
  • Jimin in "Like Crazy" (FACE)
  • V in "Slow Dancing" (Layover)
  • Jungkook in "Seven" (Golden)

As usual, the attention to detail in their individual hairstyles, outfits, and even background stickers is impeccable. I'm glad that HYBE decided to create figures with a totally different theme than their other figure collections (e.g. TinyTAN, Funko, Banpresto, etc.), which have a lot of overlap (for example, they've done "Dynamite" and "Butter" across all toy brands). These particular figures for BTS Island: In the SEOM actually mark the first series of figures that feature BTS' solo work — a cute acknowledgement of this second chapter of BTS while they're in the military. Can't wait to see what they come up with for Version 3!

Unboxing: BTS TinyTAN x Toy Story Figures

on
Sunday, June 23, 2024
My BTS TinyTAN x Toy Story figures arrived last week!

This marks the fourth official TinyTAN figure set by HYBE/BigHit, with the "Butter" set from 2022 preceding it, and is the first TinyTAN collaboration with a movie franchise.

Each BTS TinyTAN member has his own distinct cellophane windowed box with his name and his own illustration based on the Toy Story character he represents. Each figure comes with a stand colour-matched to his character with the name of the respective member and character on the base and one matching sticker each to decorate the stand. The figures measure anywhere from 7.1 to 8.2 cm in height, with all stands measuring 9cm in height, and are made of PVC and ABS plastics. Each figure retails for ₩29,000 or $23.78 USD on Weverse Shop Global. As of the date of this post, each figure is sold out with no updates as to whether they'll be restocked, but there are some non-official merchandise websites that are selling them at inflated prices.

This collaboration features each BTS TinyTAN member dressed up in a costume of a specific Toy Story character:

  • RM as Woody (Brown)
  • Jin as Alien (Green)
  • Suga as Hamm (Navy)
  • J-Hope as Forky (Aqua)
  • Jimin as Rex (Yellow)
  • V as Lotso (Pink)
  • Jungkook as Buzz Lightyear (Purple)

As if the BTS members as TinyTAN weren't adorable enough, they had to go and collaborate with Toy Story and make them DEVASTATINGLY ADORABLE. This collaboration actually features a plethora of products (they even opened up a pop-up store for it in Seoul), but the only items that were absolute must-haves to me were the figures. Because what is more essential to any Toy Story collaboration than THE TOYS?

Unboxing: Banpresto BTS TinyTAN "Butter" Q Posket Figures

My BTS TinyTAN "Butter" Q Posket figures have arrived!

Q Posket figures come in two types: Version A and Version B. I had to really stare at online photos to see what the difference is because at first glance, they look exactly the same. But Version A is actually brighter and more vivid in colour, whereas Version B is darker and less saturated, so as with the "Dynamite" figures, I went with Version A. (For the "MIC Drop" figures, I didn't realize there were two versions and there was no choice in the listing I found on Amazon, so I ended up getting Version B. But based on photos I've seen online, it looks like it's the opposite for the "MIC Drop" set: Version B is actually the more vivid one. So I still ended up getting the version I wanted, anyway.)

On top of having the same outfit and hairstyles as the original figures, I realized that they also have the exact same poses as well, so these are a great option if you missed out on getting the original TinyTAN figure sets (which were only sold on Weverse Shop).

I got these from a Japanese vendor on eBay who sells brand new Q Posket figures for significantly less than Amazon or Walmart (approximately $22 CAD per figure vs. $33+ CAD per figure, and with FREE international shipping!), so if you're interested in these figure sets and are willing to wait a little bit longer for shipping (about 2 weeks), I would highly recommend checking out the listings on eBay first to save some money. Of course, now I wish TinyTAN and Banpresto made figures for "DNA," "IDOL," and "Boy With Luv" because the outfits from those MVs are ICONIC. Such a missed opportunity.

Unboxing: Funko POP! BTS PROOF Vinyl Figures

on
Sunday, January 7, 2024
On Boxing Day, my friend Ronsee texted me to see if I was interested in any of the new BTS Funko POP! figures because he was at the mall and Funko figures were on sale for Buy 3, Get 1 Free. He had sent me a photo and I saw that the new figures were themed after BTS' PROOF album. I was genuinely surprised because I didn't even know Funko had come out with new BTS figures after the "Butter" ones launched in 2022. (To be fair, I haven't really been paying attention to Twitter recently, which is where I would get all of my BTS merch news.) So I asked Ronsee if they had all seven members available because I buy all seven or none. Unfortunately, the store he was at was missing two of the members, so I immediately went online to do some searching and found them all available through Amazon.

These mark the fourth official Funko POP! BTS figure collaboration, with "Dynamite," "IDOL," and "Butter" preceding it. This is the first BTS collaboration with Funko that is themed after an album rather than a single. All seven figures come individually packaged in black and red boxes with clear cellophane windows in the front. The BTS logo is on the front of the box and the PROOF logo is on the back. These should be available for sale now at all retailers selling Funko figures both offline and online, however, I got mine for $17.89 CAD each on Amazon.ca. (For reference, the cheapest I've seen them here is $16.99 CAD each and the most expensive is $29.99 CAD each.)

As I mentioned, these are the first figures in the BTS x Funko collaboration to be themed after a full album rather than a single. While the "Dynamite" and "Butter" figures were styled from their respective music videos, these figures feature the same hair colours, poses, and outfits from the Door concept from BTS' PROOF album.

Most Funko retailers, both offline and online, that are carrying these figures seem to be missing or are sold out of at least one member. So if looking to collect these and live in Canada but you're OT7 like me, your best bet to find all seven at a fair price is actually Amazon. (However, if you live in the US, you can find order them easily off the official Funko website without paying atrocious exchange rates, shipping prices, or duties.)
