BTS Earns Their First Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with "Dynamite"

BTS MAKES HISTORY YET AGAIN! Not gonna lie, I teared up when I saw the news this afternoon, my heart bursting with pride and happiness for BTS. (Like the boys themselves, who stayed up until 5:30AM KST to wait for chart to be updated, and who all cried out of joy all over social media here, here, here, here, here, here, and alloverWeverse upon hearing the news.) Seven years after their debut and hot on the heels of their four MTV VMA wins last night, they have finally gotten their first #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. This is the last main Billboard chart that they had yet to get a #1 and they finally did it with "Dynamite," making them the first South Korean group to top this chart. Congratulations, my baby boys. You finally did it, and there's honestly no one more deserving of this.

It's Jungkookie's birthday in Korea already, so he posted an adorable pic on Twitter commemorating his 22nd (23rd in Korea) birthday after several of his hyungs posted celebratory tweets. Traditionally, Kookie releases a cover song for us on his birthday, but he announced on Weverse that he wasn't be able to this year and that he'd gift us "a different thing as a gesture of gratitude" instead. He followed this up by uploading a demo of his own (self-composed?) song on Twitter. It is a truly gorgeous song (sang all in English!), so I had to share the tweet here. I just hope he uploads the full version on SoundCloud soon. It's too good not to.

I am so glad they are finally taking an extended break. These boys have been working crazy hard for the last six years and have never taken a proper vacation and they deserve it so, so much. I'm glad BigHit made an official statement about it, too, so ARMYs aren't worried about why they might be less active on social media and will — hopefully — give them their space if they see them in public. I also appreciate that BigHit stressed that this is an opportunity for the boys to "enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s," because they've missed out on so many things that we take for granted as non-celebrities. I just hope they take this time to really relax and take care of themselves.
