Wishing Mr. Worldwide Handsome and BTS' matnae the happiest 33rd birthday! Thank you for your ability to be shameless and humble at the same time, your incredible perseverance and ambition, your charming honesty, your windshield wiper laugh, and for always showing that age is just a number. Thank you for taking care of your little brothers, for always taking the time to talk to ARMYs, for always choosing to be positive, and for reminding us to love ourselves. I hope you have an incredible birthday with your loved ones and a wonderful year ahead filled with love and happiness. 💜
I remember when this tour was first announced, I was worried about how the Run Jin concept was going to be incorporated into the concerts. But I didn't need to worry; the concert was fucking amazing. Of course, Jin's live performances were phenomenal — flawless vocals, incredible energy — but it was also really interactive and hilarious and so much fun. It was a concert that felt completely different to any other one I'd been to — one that was so unique, and so thoroughly JIN. I know I say this for all BTS concerts, but god, I'm so glad I got tickets for this tour.

Jin #RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR VIP Gifts — VIP Laminate Pass + Lanyard, Acrylic Pin Set, and Fanny Pack
I had pre-ordered the oversized Check Shirt and Tour Keyring from Weverse Shop Global in June, but I did pick up a few things at the concert: the S/S Routing T-Shirt (US version), Wootteo Keyring, and Tour Mini Charm (Newark version). (I thought I exercised a lot of self-control, if I do say so myself.) I received some gifts with my Soundcheck VIP Package as well: a VIP laminate pass and lanyard, an acrylic pin set, and a silver fanny pack.
Jin Ramen Mild T-Shirt
Jin Ramen Mild Noodle Pack and Noodle Cup
There was also a huge Otoki Jin Ramen booth inside the venue (not sure if they're a tour sponsor, but Jin is — appropriately — the current spokesmodel for them) where they were giving out free gift bags to all the VIP that included a blue Jin Ramen Mild T-shirt, a pack of Jin Ramen Mild, and a cup of Jin Ramen Mild. (Coincidentally, I just picked up a six-pack of Jin Ramen Mild cups last week. Not because Jin is the spokesperson, but because it's genuinely delicious.)
Gifts from ARMY!
And, of course, there were tons of ARMYs giving out free goodies — handmade beaded bracelets, keychains, buttons, dozens of photo cards, ticket bookmarks, a plethora of candy, the most adorable BTS ARMY pens, scrunchies, and even bottle openers! Truly, BTS ARMY is the best fandom in the world. (I'm only slightly biased.)
Finally got to see Jin at the last date of the North American Leg of his #RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR in Newark yesterday! Aside from Jin performing his songs, I actually didn't know what to expect from a tour that's based on Run Jin — his variety show that's full of shenanigans — because I purposely kept myself from watching tour footage beforehand so as not to spoil the experience. But it was surprisingly interactive, with random audience participance games in between songs, and HILARIOUS. (Him trying to guess "Orange Suit Guy" with all of us pointing to an ARMY in the 300 sections wearing a full-on orange dinosaur suit will forever be a highlight.) And considering this tour doesn't include choreography or backup dancers, I thought he commanded the stage exceptionally well on his own. His setlist was well-rounded and included the majority of his solo songs across Happy and Echo, as well "Super Tuna" (of course), and a medley of BTS songs:
Running Wild
I'll Be There
With the Clouds
Falling
Don't Say You Love Me
Super Tuna
I Will Come to You
Abyss
Background
Another Level
Loser
Rope It
BTS Medley: Dynamite
BTS Medley: Butter
BTS Medley: Mikrokosmos
Spring Day
The Astronaut
Nothing Without Your Love
Epiphany
Moon
To Me, Today
I managed to get us Soundcheck VIP Packages for this concert, so we also had the pleasure of watching him perform "Running Wild," "Another Level," and "Super Tuna" during soundcheck. Despite having had to line up in a thunderstorm with pouring rain all afternoon (thank god I checked the forecast beforehand and packed an umbrella) and not being able to leave Prudential Center for nearly seven hours (as a smoker, this is kind of a nightmare), I thought this concert was absolutely worth flying to Newark for. (As you can imagine, there are some worries about going over to the US right now.)
As usual, I will be uploading reels of every single stage from this concert on my Instagram. (Lest you think I'm not enjoying the concert in real-time, I usually film about a minute of each song and then sing along and dance and wave my ARMY Bomb with everyone else.) Just waiting for the official announcement of the OT7 world tour now. (And the ticketing blood bath that will ensue.) Unless another surprise solo tour is coming...
Jin: "I heard the [Vanity Fair] lie detector test is pretty popular in the U.S. right now, so I'm going to get a test done. It'll probably go like, 'Are you BTS?' 'Yes!' [pauses] What if it says it's a lie?! Then I'll say, 'I'm Bangtan Sonyeondan.' 'Are you a man?' 'Yes!' [pauses] What if it says that's a lie, too?! I don't know what kind of questions I'll get, but I'll try my best to lie in a way that works in my favour. It'll be a lie but I'll convince myself it's not. Yes, I'll lie, but I'll trick even myself so that even the lie detector won't detect my lies…"
Man, getting a spot at one of these events is truly like winning the lottery, and that's only if you live in Korea. Us international fans don't even get a chance. On that note, at least I'm going to see Jin next month. 37 DAYS TO GO!
Q. As an ARMY, which title song would you recommend when introducing BTS to someone for the first time?
A. It's between "FAKE LOVE" or "ON" for me. They both have darker themes and sound a bit edgier, but they have strong, self-reflective lyrics that resonate with a lot of people. Plus, they're catchy in a way that you don't get sick of over time.
Q. Which BTS song is the hidden gem you'd want to gatekeep for yourself?
A. Ooof, this one is hard... I have dozens, actually, but I think I've gotta go with "Paradise" with "Sea" being a really close second. (Although it's kind of cheating with "Sea" because it's actually listed as a hidden track on Love Yourself: Her and it's not even available digitally — I had to extract it from my CD to listen to it on my devices.) Oh, but then there's also "Louder Than Bombs"... and "Rain"... and "Love Maze"... and "House of Cards"...
Q. What is ARMY's favourite BTS choreography?
A. Okay, these questions are way harder than I expected, maybe because their discography is so huge now. If I had to pick only one, I think I'd still go with "Blood Sweat & Tears" even after all these years. Not only does it look beautiful and complex, but it was this song's MV that got me into BTS. I remember thinking, "Damn, these guys can fucking dance." I also think it's one of the most unique and iconic choreographies in all of K-pop. But I'd follow this one with "Run BTS" and "ON."
Q. If ARMY could turn back time, which BTS concert would they go to?
A. Any concert on The Wings Tour in 2017. I had just gotten into BTS and missed this tour. I've watched the DVD set many times but it's just not the same as seeing the epicness live.
Q. Which original BTS content would ARMY like to see more of?
A. If we're talking long-form series, then it's definitely Bon Voyage. I actually think that series is some of my favourite BTS content of all time. I've re-watched each season multiple times. There's something about traveling with them — seeing a new destination through their eyes, seeing them experience local activities and explore landmarks, seeing their interactions with each other and the locals — that's genuinely fun, interesting, and exciting. It also temporarily satisfies my wanderlust. Of course, for a short-form series, it's obviously Run BTS!. This is the one show that I've watched almost from the beginning and is also how I got to know the members' personalities and their dynamics within the group.
Q. What's ARMY's favourite BTS lingo?
A. I'm going to have to say "lajibolala." It's a classic.
Q. What is ARMY's favourite music show performance?
A. I'm going to agree with Hobi here and say the "Boy with Luv" performance at SNL. It was such a small stage with no frills, just raw talent and great choreography, but they made such an impact. If we're talking about an awards show, though, I'm gonna say the 2019 MMA, which was just the most complex, extravagant, over-the-top performance I've ever seen at any awards show.
Q. If you could express your feelings toward BTS with one of their lyrics, which one would you choose?
A. From "Magic Shop": "You were the one who made your way to me / I do believe your galaxy, I want to listen to your melody / The stars of your Milky Way, how will they light your sky? / Don't forget that in the end, I found you at the edge of my despair / You are the last reason I was standing on the edge of the cliff, live."
Q. How did you become an ARMY? (What made you fall for BTS?)
A. I was an avid watcher of Lilly Singh's channel back in the day and watched her "Parents React" video to BTS' "Blood Sweat & Tears" and I was just mesmerized by this MV. The visuals, the production, the choreography, the unbelievably pretty men. It was the first time I ever watched anything relating to K-pop in general, but I had never seen anything quite like this, and it was specifically this MV that made me fall down the BTS rabbit hole. I just kept clicking on all the BTS videos that YouTube recommended on the sidebar. I remember no one around me knew who BTS was, no one around me listened to K-pop, so I had to navigate all the BTS content on my own — the timeline of their MVs and the BTS Universe, where to watch specific content (RIP V Live), which accounts to follow, which translators were the most reliable. And here we are, nine years later, and they're the biggest band in the world.
Q. What's something interesting that happened to you that was related to BTS?
A. I've known my friend Iris for 12 or 13 years now (I actually met her through her boyfriend — now husband — who was friends with some of my guy friends, and she hired me to do the makeup for her bridal party at their wedding) but we weren't really good friends until a couple years ago when she became an ARMY and she reached out to me on IG about BTS.
Q. What are the moments of joy that being an ARMY brought you?
A. Honestly, there are too many to count. From listening to their music to watching their content to collecting merch to seeing them in concert, BTS is apart of my daily life.
"I feel like I barely have any charisma. I'm probably last place out of all the members. My members are scarily rizzy."
"I still don't think I'm super famous or anything. So I'm able to do everything I wanna do. There's nothing I can't do."
"I look in the mirror and say, 'You're handsome.' If I say this, I start believing it for real. Then I think my genes listen and actually make me look better."
You know, I think Jin is simultaneously the most humble and most confident person I've ever seen in my life.
Jin: "We've been working individually for a while, right?"
Hobi: "It's been a long time."
Jin: "Working as a team today made me feel so happy and cheerful."
Hobi: "It's almost been a year since you were discharged from the military."
Jin: "It's been 11 months already."
Hobi: "Time really flies."
Jin: "Time does fly. Let's look forward to the day our members are all discharged and we can all work together."
They've thrived so much with their solo work and they're so joking and playful here, but you can tell that they miss their team as a whole. I can't wait until all seven are back together.
You know, I feel like Jin and J-Hope wasn't a pairing that was often put together within BTS, at least in their public content, so I love that they get this opportunity now. MY 2SEOK HEART!
Damn, they did such a good job re-creating these. But whereas J-Hope looked super serious and almost sinister for his Jack in the Box photoshoot, I think Jin just looks adorable. Man, I hope they upload the behind-the-scenes for this. Of course, now I'm thinking about what the concept switches would look like for the other members; Jimin doing Suga's D-DAY, Suga doing V's Layover, V doing RM's Indigo, RM doing Jungkook's GOLDEN, Jungkook doing Jimin's FACE...
FINALLY!!! I've seen fan videos of this concert all over my social media, but I have been waiting for official behind-the-scenes footage of Jin's guest appearance at Coldplay's concerts in Korea and it's everything I hoped for. You know, if you told me even five years ago that BTS and Coldplay would have a collaboration, I would never have believed you. BUT IT'S BECOME THE MOST WHOLESOME MUSICIAN FRIENDSHIP I HAVE EVER SEEN AND I AM LIVING FOR IT.
Okay, between J-Hope's thirst trap photos and Jin's dreamy live vocals, I AM GETTING BTS CONTENT WHIPLASH. Anyway, as someone who just listened to Echo while taking a shower, I gotta say, Jin's live vocals really sound exactly like they do on the record — the chest voice, the falsetto, the vibrato, everything. I just can't believe this guy ever thought his vocals weren't good enough.
A ROLLERCOASTER OF EMOTIONS. I started this episode laughing along with Sandeul, just basking in their BFF-ness, and ended up teary-eyed at Hobi's message and the staff's love and dedication to Jin and this show… I just can't believe it's over. Thank you, Jin and the Run Jin staff, for giving us 36 episodes fun adventures, new experiences, and hilarious collaborations.
On that note, the next adventure is the Run Jin Tour! I actually forgot that Jin's upcoming tour is based on this show, which makes me wonder what kind of shenanigans he'll be up to at these concerts… and I can't wait to see it in person.
