Canadian National Exhibition: Summer 2011

on
Monday, September 5, 2011
A bunch of us made our annual trip to the CNE today, since Labour Day Monday is the last day of the fair (thereby also marking the end of summer vacations). We ended up walking from Union Station to Exhibition Place (about 3.4 km), since the wait for streetcars was over an hour. I figured it was smart of us to start burning some calories earlier, anyway, because we would definitely be eating about three times our daily recommended caloric intake today (doughnut cheeseburger was on our must-try list). The weather was absolutely perfect: overcast, cool, and slightly breezy. Definitely nice enough to be staying outside for long periods of time (no heatstroke!). Here was my day summarized in pictures:

The guys won me an Angry Birds bird!

Don't worry, I shared all of that disgustingly delicious food with five other people.

Hope you all had a wonderful Labour Day!

  3. Haha, not just weight gain, Irene, but also clogged arteries and heart attacks. :)

Hey, Mary! I was there from 12:30pm to around 7:30pm. Were you there yesterday?!

  4. Woah, you went on the last day and got that much done?! How did you manage w/ all the lines?! I waited 30 mins for a funnel cake on a weekday and that was enough to put me off waiting in line for Tiny Tom's. I'm so jealous of all your food! I went to the Ex twice this year and it wasn't enough to satisfy all my deep fried food cravings!

  5. Haha, we were super-smart about the line-ups. I was with five other friends, so three of us would line-up for one thing, and the other three would line-up for another. :D The Tiny Tom's line-ups were super, super long, but they go by pretty fast. I think we lined up for about... ten minutes. And there were maybe 40 people in front of us!

It sucks that you couldn't try all the deep-fried goodies, though. :/ I guess there's always next year, lol. I did originally want to try the deep-fried peanut butter and jam, but we ended up forgetting about it, lol.

  6. We got there around 3, but didn't officially get in until 4 something because of the INSANE wait time for parking. I really wanted to go in Direct Energy Bldg, but it was closed once we got there... it was that damn lineup for funnel cake's fault! I think I must have waited for 45 minutes!!

I'm never going back on Labour day. But the weather was great!! If only I'd been in pants instead of shorts lol

  7. Haha, that's probably why we got so much more done (e.g. eat more food) -- we tried to get there earlier for The Air Show around 1:00pm, but ended up not watching it because we got distracted by all the food. And the only thing worth seeing at the Direct Energy Building is the sand sculptures, really. The stalls are always kinda boring to me, lol.

See, I didn't bother with the funnel cake, already having had some at Canada's Wonderland. We had to really organize our stomach space with all the deep-fried goodness going on. We considered getting deep-fried Twinkies and the deep-fried PB&J, but then decided they might be overkill after all we ate already... :P
