This week's Friday Five:
- What's your favorite thing about cold weather? Oh, god, fashion is the best in the fall and winter. Like, gorgeous coats, scarves, boots... And sleeping with thick, warm, cuddly blankets. In the summer, it can get so hot that you can be naked and still sweating. Gross. But when it's cold and you have sufficient blankets, it's just like... a glorious cocoon. Also, Peppermint White Chocolate Mochas from Starbucks, and Gingerbread Lattes from Second Cup.
- Soups and hot beverages seem to be everyone's favorite cold-weather culinary combatant, but what's another food that seems to take the bite out of the cold? Pho or ramen. I eat it all year round, but it's extra phenomenal when it's cold out. As well as grilled cheese, pizza, pasta, stew... It's just comforting, really, and for whatever reason, I feel less bloated when I eat these foods in the winter. Also, anything spicy. Eating spicy things when it's hot out makes me feel uncomfortable. But spicy chicken wings in the winter? Fantastic.
- When the weather is just starting to turn cold but is not yet in full frigidity, what do you add to your bed until it's time to break out the heavy artillery (what, not whom!)? I get my "winter duvet," which is just thicker and more plush. So good.
- What household chore seems especially unkind in these colder months? Taking out the garbage/recycling.
- Among people you know, who seems most oblivious to cold weather? My friend, Vito. It'll be -20°C out, and he'll be like, "Wanna walk to Tim Horton's?" He's ridiculous.
