MAC released a new collection yesterday, called MAC, Naturally. It features 23 products in total, 18 of which are limited edition. There are four limited edition shades of Lipglass featured in this collection, three of which are new, and one of which is a re-promote (this one will not be reviewed here). MAC's Lipglass formula is on the thicker, stickier side, but they have semi-opaque to opaque colour pay-off, and also wear fairly long for a gloss — about four hours before needing to re-apply. They are vanilla-scented, but taste-free. Depending on the finish, I get anywhere from three to six hours of wear. Each Lipglass comes in regular clear/black packaging with a doe-foot applicator, contains a total of 4.8 grams of product, and retails for $17.50. These shades are applicable for the Back To MAC recycling program at MAC Store locations only.
Fresh Air, Naked Space, and Hot Spell
Fresh Air is a light pink with white and pink micro-shimmer. It went on smooth and evenly, and has low pigmentation and sheer colour pay-off. Once applied, it adds a touch of pink but generally just lightens up your natura lip colour. While it shares the same texture as a regular Lipglass, it ends up looking more like a Cremesheen Glass. It's much more sheer than Oyster Girl, more pink than Pretty Plush Plushglass, and much less pink than Partial To Pink Cremesheen Glass.Naked Space is a light gilded peach with white micro-shimmer. It seemed thicker than the normal Lipglass texture, and didn't go on as smoothly or evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. I found that this one had that rancid plasticky smell that old/expired Lipglasses have, which is rather off-putting. It is darker and more gold than C-Thru, and lighter and less pink than Enchantress.Hot Spell is a medium-dark coppery brown with gold micro-shimmer. It went on smooth and evenly, and has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is more copper than Shock-o-late, and less red than Ornamental Lustreglass.
Overall, I thought Hot Spell was the only shade here that had an overall good texture and application with the pigmentation and colour pay-off that a Lipglass should have. Fresh Air is nice, but it is also very sheer, and thusly very similar to a lot of other glosses out there. Naked Space is a nice colour, but it didn't apply smoothly or evenly, and the smell is just acrid to me. The shades are in-line with the theme of this collection ("natural"), but they are all rather dupeable. I feel like MAC releases so many Lipglasses that these just aren't very unique. If you're looking for a new Lipglass, I would check out the ones from Tour de Fabulous first, which are fantastic across the board.
I almost got Hot Spell yesterday but managed to resist. I agree, the others are way too sheer.
ReplyDeleteThere are definitely glosses with better colours and textures than these ones (even within MAC's range). Good thing you saved your money on this one! (If you were recycling for the gloss, it might be worth it, though. Free stuff is the best!)
