This week's Friday Five:
- Where is your favourite tree? There was a beautiful magnolia tree that grew in the front yard of my old house, and I remember every Spring, my dad would make my brother and I stand in front of that tree to take photos. So, there's a series of photos in one of the albums somewhere in my house right now that features my brother and I in front of that magnolia tree over the span of a decade. My favourite part was when that tree bloomed, the white and pink petals would float everywhere and it looked a little bit like a dream world. Of course, the new owners of that house cut it down, 'cause they're assholes.
- Where is your favourite chair? Well, I do enjoy the chair I'm currently sitting in, which once belonged in my dad's office. It's a big executive chair in black leather that can recline so I can actually put my feet up on the desk. It makes me feel like a badass CEO of some important company. Aside from that, I also thoroughly enjoy the leather couch in my living room. We've had it for about 20 years now, and it's still the best couch to take naps on... If I'm on that couch, I will fall asleep without fail. I basically become narcoleptic when I'm on there.
- Who has your favourite hair? Ryan Gosling. Obviously. But if this question is in reference to whose hair I'm envious of, then probably Shay Mitchell. I mean, her hair's so nice, Pantene asked her to be a spokesperson.
- What's your favorite mug (or other drinking vessel) like? The Harvard mug that I got on a trip there two years ago. It's the perfect size and is aesthetically pleasing. Oh, I also love the green Rolling Rock glass I stole from a pub.
- Where's your favorite parking spot (not at home)? I don't really have one. I like to drive, not park.
LOL @ "'cause they're assholes." Aw, that's sad. My favourite tree in our yard was a small cherry tree that died one year without any warning. I was strangely devastated.
ReplyDeleteThe 90 year-old in me has decided that I need a super comfy rocking chair, STAT.
Aww, I had two cherry trees in my old backyard! They bloomed and grew fruit for a good 15 years before they got infested and then we had to cut them down. :(
DeleteLOL, I used to have a rocking chair in my old house 'cause my grandma lived with us. Those things are AMAZING.
1. There is no particular tree, but I happen to really like the trees from my former university's Great Court. Here's a picture of it: http://cdn7.wn.com/pd/16/f8/a8843e626fad415c9c269b99f2f6_grande.jpg
ReplyDelete2. Years ago, when I first moved to Norway, my favourite chair was the bf's couch because I didn't have a couch in my studio apartment back then. Nowadays, it's my couch in my place. I never seem to want to get out of it once I'm seated there.
3. Chloe (Allison Mack) from Smallville. I cannot count the number of times I went to a hairstylist over the years armed with a photograph of her hairstyle. It was borderline obsessive but I so loved her hairdo. It was a short hairstyle where hair product was used to create texture at the ends so the ends would curl outward. Many hairstylists told me it was not possible with my hair texture and I kind of believed them until last year when I got a piecey, tousled short hair cut (without Chloe's photo) and it actually turned out looking very similar to the hairdo I used to dream of.
4. I have a mug the bf got me on his trip to London (I wasn't there). It reads "Drama Queen" and it's from a range of merchandise from Jamie Oliver. I was kind of annoyed when he first gave it to me, but over the years it's become a bit of a joke between us :) I might bring it to work at some point.
5. I don't drive :)
Your university campus looks beautiful!
DeleteAlso loved Chloe's flippy bob! :) I don't think I could pull off that look, but I love the piecey, tousled look. :)
LOL, that's cute of your bf. If someone gave me a Drama Queen mug, I'd be like, "YEAH I AM WHATCHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT" and get all up in their face. I'll show them drama queen!
Do you take local transit? I couldn't imagine living without a car now!
Thank you. I really love my university (the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia) - more so now than ever because I've started to value the time I spent there. Back then I was just so stressed, nervous and worried, but now that I can take a step back, I feel so lucky to have gotten a chance to study there.
DeleteYes, "flippy bob" is probably the best term to describe it. Ahh, piecey, tousled looks are my favourite. I used to rebel against my hair texture (it's thick and wavy) and try to get it sleek straight but these days, with how expensive hair care is in Norway, I've started getting haircuts that use my hair's natural hair texture. It's so much easier to maintain.
Hehehe, yes, the mug is kind of cute :) This is what it looks like http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Royal-Worcester-Jamie-Oliver-Drama-Queen-Cheeky-Mug-/12/!CEeqO,QBmk~$(KGrHqF,!jUE0C8yfRYfBNSCt3d!2g~~_35.JPG
Yes, I take the bus to work - it's about 3 stops away as I work smack dab in the middle of the city. Like 3 minutes walk away from the MAC store actually ;) I go to the MAC store at least once a week to de-stress between meetings or when I'm on a coffee run. I think generally, the US, Canada, and similarly designed cities (like Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and probably major parts of Australia) do require a car because the distance from one place to another is just vast. But in Norway, the capital city - Oslo - it's tiny. It has a bit more than 500,000 people in it and there are so many buses/trams/trains so getting around downtown is easy. The challenge is when you live outside of Oslo and you commute to work - that solution is not quite perfect yet. Those trains can break down a bit during winter. People who drive into the city do have issues with traffic jams and such too. I'm just lucky I live close to the city, but that restricts the size of my apartment too, because land around Oslo is limited. The housing costs are sky-rocketing each year.
Oh, cool! I never knew you studied in Australia! My friend is actually getting her Master's in Speech Pathology at University of Queensland right now! :)
DeleteEmbrace your natural hair texture! We always want what we can't have. I have straight hair and I always wanna have those beautiful waves but they never hold properly without A TON of product. :( But I just keep it straight or tied up 'cause I can't be bothered to do my hair most days, lol.
Haha, that's actually a really cute mug! Love the shape of it!
Yes, housing costs are sky-rocketing everywhere. That's why everyone moves to the suburbs here. Even I don't live in city proper (I live in the Greater Toronto Area). I live about a 30 minute drive from downtown and about a 15 minute drive from the Toronto boundaries. :) If I lived in the city, I would take public transit as well. I lived right at the edge of Toronto when I was younger, so I took the bus and subway to school everyday, from middle school to university. I think the traffic is the same everywhere, though, if you live outside of the main city and have to commute to and from.
