I have been waiting with bated breath for a new Deftones record, and they finally announced that their eighth studio album, Gore, will be dropping this April. They just released their first single — it starts off dreamy and ethereal, clearly influenced Chino Moreno's side projects, Team Sleep and Crosses, but it intensifies into a powerful, almost aggressive chorus, keeping it in firmly in Deftones territory. It's a true reflection of Deftones' affinity for juxtaposing things that are beautiful and delicate and things that are dark and provocative, and I am in love with it. Thank you, Deftones, for this wonderful Valentine's gift. I cannot wait until April 8th.
