Tokyo 2023 Travel Log: Day 5 — Kaitenzushi at Sushiro

on
Wednesday, April 12, 2023
We've done plenty of touristy things while we've been in Japan, but one thing that we really wanted to try was kaitenzushi, or conveyor belt sushi. (Well, I suppose tourists and locals both love it because we had to wait nearly 45 minutes for a table at Sushiro in Shinjuku — at nearly 9:00PM. Eating late is a thing here.) You get surprisingly decent quality nigiri, though, and it's both incredibly efficient and fun to watch. Here, my choices:

In case you're wondering, the colour of the plate indicates the price of the item: black plates are ¥390, red plates are ¥210, and yellow plates are ¥150. I had 18 pieces of nigiri (some not pictured here) and two different desserts for $30 CAD (no tax, no tip)! I cannot stress enough how GODDAMN CHEAP THIS IS. This is literally unheard of in Canada, even in the grimiest of sushi restaurants. Wonder if we can squeeze in another kaitenzushi restaurant on this trip...
