Painting the Sky: Summer Edition

on
Friday, October 7, 2022
So over the summer, I would take a photo of the sky if I thought it was particularly beautiful or interesting, and I somehow accumulated quite a lot of them. Now that fall is in full swing, I thought I'd share some of these.

So, my brother, for no reason at all, gifted me a brand new 13-inch MacBook Pro before he left for NYC.

This was perfect timing because my old MacBook Pro is now six-years-old. It doesn't close properly anymore, it only has a 2-hour battery life now, and it gets so hot that I can literally burn my fingers on the power cord. But I was confused as to why he gave me a new laptop at all, as it's not my birthday or an occasion or anything. So I asked him why he just had an extra MacBook to give away and why no one wanted it. And all he said was, "It's not that no one wanted it, it's that I thought of you first." So, I guess I just have a really nice brother.

(I still don't know why he ordered a new MacBook to begin with. He showed me the receipt and everything. But I will not question any further. This laptop is beautiful.)

My Amazon package arrived today! I'm getting into cooking these days and wanted to get a few small appliances that I'd been missing.

I needed to get small versions of these appliances because space in my apartment is extremely limited, which lead me to finding a brand called Dash. It started with the waffle maker that I've been meaning to get for a couple months now (because as much as I like pancakes, I like waffles more). Then after I made those burgers a couple weeks ago, I felt like I needed a grill, so I got one of those, too. Then after making those lemon pancakes, I wanted to get a griddle to make really perfect-looking pancakes which would also help with making perfectly circular eggs (or anything requiring a circle shape, really). And Dash makes them in SUPER FUN COLOURS AND DESIGNS, which works out well because my whole kitchen is full of colourful appliances already (like my lime green toaster and my aqua coffee maker and my yellow blender), so obviously I got a waffle-patterned waffle maker, an aqua griddle, and a pink grill.

I'm looking forward to making many perfectly circular foods.

Hi, I bought a cute new yellow blender (you know, to go with my aqua coffee maker and my lime green toaster) to make smoothies because I thought they'd be easy, healthy, and fast meal replacements (mostly for breakfast, actually, 'cause I never have an appetite first thing after I wake up). So I made my first smoothie ever. Just frozen strawberries and a banana and some water (sadly, I can't use juice or milk as my liquid with all this fruit because it's too much sugar), but it turned out way tastier than I expected. I mean, you can't go wrong with banana and strawberries, but still. Baby steps.

Unboxing: Smoko Haul

on
Tuesday, February 9, 2021
I was on the hunt for a new air purifier because my old one is way too big for my apartment and the latch on the inside component is broken (also it is just a pain in the ass to clean), and found the most adorable one by Smoko that is SHAPED LIKE A DUMPLING. I had to buy it immediately.

I figured I would do some more perusing since I had to pay for shipping, anyway. I've ordered a few things from Smoko before and they're actually known for their ambient lights. (I have two: one is a dumpling that the air purifier is based off of, and the other one is shaped like toast.) So I bought two more: a giant boba one (you know I had to) and a pear-shaped one. Nevermind that I'm a fully grown 34-year-old woman. I CAN'T RESIST CUTE SHIT.

In honour of Jin's birthday tomorrow, I made 120 paper stars. Except the jar I bought for them is far bigger than I expected. So I will have to get some more paper strips. But still, it's the effort that counts, right? (This is my gateway to getting back into origami. I'm working on dahlias next.)

I'm currently re-reading the Harry Potter series for the 12th time. Just started Goblet of Fire and realized this year is its 20th anniversary. (Fun fact: I actually went to a midnight release party at Chapters for it in 2000.) Honestly, they're just as good now as they were the first time I read them. Conclusion: Harry Potter is timeless and will always remain one of the best series I've ever read. Also, I have a crush on Sirius Black. Also, I am getting old.

I totally forgot about these BTS metal chopsticks that I bought at the Jimin birthday cup sleeve event we went to on Sunday. I had shoved them in my purse and didn't find them until today when I was getting my keys. Now, I know what you're thinking. Am I so obsessed with BTS that I needed to get branded chopsticks? The answer is yes, yes I am. Firstly, as someone who uses chopsticks everyday, they're practical. Secondly, they're adorable. Thirdly, they're iridescent. I had to. (And in case you want them, they are made by @BTSCupsleeveUSA!)

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians! Today is the first day since moving into my condo that I actually have all to myself (e.g. no plans, no errands, etc.), so I'm trying to be as productive as possible. I finally built my new bookshelves (all by myself 'cause I'm a strong independent woman), emptied out twelve containers of books and DVDs (that I ended up having to double-stack on every shelf because I didn't have enough space), brought all those empty containers to my locker storage downstairs, installed a new towel rack in my bathroom (I might have a new obsession with power drills), and did three loads of laundry. And now I'm about to vacuum and do a thorough cleaning of my floors. See how much you can accomplish when you don't have turkey dinner?

Been on hold with Ikea for over an hour now, for the third time. I was supposed to receive two bookshelves on Sunday, and I missed the 9:30AM delivery because my phone was on silent and I was dead asleep. That was totally my fault, and I admit that. So I called them on the same day. The rep was seeing if the delivery truck was still out and maybe could be re-routed. No luck. I asked if I could just pick up the bookshelves somewhere, maybe at a store. The rep said it would be going back to the distribution centre, which is non-customer facing. Okay, that's fine, I decided to re-schedule. Had to pay another $50 for a re-delivery. I was frustrated, but that's the price to pay for my mistake. The rep gave me several dates and time frames to choose from, so I chose Wednesday, again from 9:00AM - 1:00PM, because that was the soonest delivery time.

Wednesday came. I get a call from the delivery company at 8:00AM saying that my delivery was set to arrive. I made sure my phone was set to hear phone calls. Even got my mom and Ying to call me to make sure I could hear the ringtone. 1:00PM came and went. No phone call, no delivery. I called the delivery company that called me that morning to get an update. They said my items were at the Vaughan store and there was a note left saying that the items couldn't be successfully transferred to the delivery company. I said, "It's at the Vaughan store? I asked the Ikea rep on Sunday if I could have just picked up my bookshelves at a store, and he said it would be at the distribution centre that customers can't access. If it was going to the Vaughan store, I could have just picked it up." Of course, the rep could only tell me to contact Ikea, or the Vaughan store itself to see what happened to my items. I understood that it wasn't the delivery company's fault. They're just the middle man.

So I called Ikea again. Another hour wait to talk to a rep. Told him what happened, that I had already called about a re-delivery, paid the $50 fee, and it was set to arrive that morning and that I even got an automated message from the delivery company saying that it was going to arrive that morning. The rep didn't apologize, nothing. Didn't even give me a reason as to where my items were. I had to tell him that the delivery company rep told me they were at the Vaughan store. He said, "Oh, I don't see that notice anywhere." So he had to re-schedule another delivery time. He said the soonest time was on Thursday, from 4:00PM - 8:00PM. I said I have work, but I would get my mom to come over to accept the delivery. So that's fine, he confirmed the time with me. I even gave him my mom's phone number as a backup number.

Yesterday was Thursday. My mom came over. 8:00PM came and went. No delivery. No notice. No phone call. My Ikea tracking just says "On its way," but it's been that way since Sunday. Called Ikea yet again at 8:00PM. Their phone centre closes at 9:00PM, so I had about an hour to be able to reach them. Got my mom to call them from her phone because I had work. Waited until 9:15PM, still no answer. Hung up. My mom went home. Now, wasting my time is one thing. But wasting another person's time as well? That is fucking unacceptable. Now it's Friday. And I'm on hold with them again. It's been an hour, and I still haven't reached someone, and their hold music is ultra fucking annoying. But I am hell-bent on cancelling this order and demanding my delivery fee refunded as well. Basically, FUCK YOU, IKEA.

My dedicated BT21/BTS bookshelf, for collectibles, lightsticks, magazines, and books. Still a work in progress as I wait for two more bookshelves to arrive from Ikea today. (I don't want to keep paper products so close to the ground in case of flooding or water damage, so those will likely move. And I've just put miscellaneous items on the top shelf until more shelving arrives.) This probably goes without saying, but I may have too much stuff... 🙃🙃🙃
