Friday Five

This week's Friday Five:

1. Where did you hang out with friends when you were a teen? On the weekends, it was usually the mall (Yorkdale or Fairview) or downtown; Eaton Centre or Queen Street West. In high school, weekdays were for school, and weeknights were for homework, assignments, and studying. During school breaks (lunches and/or spare periods), we'd go to the nearby Second Cup to hang out. When university rolled around (I started when I was 17), we'd go to Ten Ren's at Empress Walk almost everyday, 'cause they had smoking rooms back then. (I miss those days.)
2. Where did you hang out with friends when you were in your twenties? We usually go to Willie Stouts. If we're not in the mood for a bar, it's usually Tim Horton's. Occasionally, we'll go to Go For Tea. More recently, we've been going to someone's house to play board games (Cranium!). I'm totally trying to implement a board game night. I don't really care to go out as often as I used to.
3. Where do you hang out with friends now? If you're still in your teens or twenties, where do you imagine you’ll hang out with friends when you're older? See #2. I don't see that changing very much in the near future, but we'll see! I do want to learn how to cook at some point and maybe have dinner parties (which obviously will lead into board game night).
4. What great hanging-out memories do you have? Shawn and I used to take random road trips outside of Toronto in the middle of the night. We still do it sometimes, but we've gotten busier with work and school (him) so it's hard to find the time now. When we were teenagers, Janetta and I used to go downtown almost every weekend; shopping and eating or going to local shows. Or we'd go to her house and make dinner and have movie night. Ben and I also hung out a lot, usually in a car, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, driving around. When he bought a house in Ajax, we'd buy taquitos at 7-Eleven and have movie nights. I also had a lot of fun playing Rock Band. We'd gather a group and, you know, rock out. Obviously, this is how I got to Expert level guitar. (I am also excellent at Guitar Hero.)
5. What ingredient makes hanging out better some times than others? The company. Always. It doesn't matter where you go; it's who you're with.
