The boys and I decided to go on a random road trip to Montréal since we all found ourselves having the same weekend free. It all started with talk about eating smoked meat sandwiches at Schwartz's, and then we were determined to make it happen. So, here's what happened:
Smoked meat sandwich at Schwartz's (fat-cut, of course)
333 Rue de la Commune Ouest (Old Montréal)
Walking down Rue de la Commune Ouest (Old Montréal)
Walking down Rue Saint Paul (Old Montréal)
Les Chuchoteuses by Rose-Aimée Bélanger on Rue Saint Paul (Old Montréal)
Walking down Rue Saint Paul (Old Montréal)
Italian sausage poutine from Montréal Poutine (Old Montréal)
Smoked meat pizza from Montréal Poutine (Old Montréal)
Random horse pulling a carriage (Old Montréal)
Street performer juggling two swords and a flaming baton while standing on a ladder made of sword blades
A street mime playing an accordion (also one of the scariest things I've ever seen)
Driving down Boulevard René Lévesque
Not pictured:
- Driving to Montréal in a crazy rain storm
- Way too many cups of coffee
- Way too many cigarettes
- The 3 km walk from our hotel to Schwartz's
- The 3 km walk from Schwartz's to our hotel
- Playing Cranium until 6:00am
- Being in awe of myself for guessing the word 'congregation' during the charades portion of Cranium
Needless to say, the weekend was way too short.
Schwartz's

Montréal Poutine

The sandwich looks heavenly!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, it was. It was, indeed. An excellent meat-to-bread ratio! :D
DeleteOMG that pizza looks INSANELY good!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for out foodie mini-roadtrip. Wonder if Liz can come??
The pizza was positively glorious. I was doubtful at first, 'cause who orders pizza at a poutine place, you know? But it's actually ridiculously good!
DeleteOkay, so I don't have a Friday off until September, during which I have my vacation time as well... If you wanna do it during the week, I am off Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday next week...
You girls are up to no good. Tell me about it. ;)
DeleteLooks like a great mini trip! Love all the food of course but Les Chuchoteuses - so adorable and whimsical! We need something like that here. And I'm more freaked out that the step ladder dude is going to cut his foot rushing up one of these days...
Haha, I can't wait for our next food meet-up. My friend keeps telling me about how good Mercatto is, so now I really want to try it...
DeleteYeah, there's something about Old Montreal that is so separate from the rest of the city that it really does feel like a getaway. Everything about it is adorable and whimsical. :) I just love random shit like Les Chuchoteuses. I've found that Montreal has a lot of random statues just standing around, like the whole city's kind of like a museum.
And yeah, that street performer was HARDCORE. There was this massive crowd standing in the middle of Old Montreal, and we were like, "What's going on?" And the next thing you know, we see him inserting these massive blades into this ladder and then climbs up on it and starts juggling fire batons. 'Twas ridiculous.
Awwww....I have plans on Monday and work from Tues-Thurs....
DeleteWhat about the week after? September's a write off for me as I have relatives visiting from the Philippines and any free time I have will go towards showing them around.
Will keep you posted!
And Liz, I suggested a foodie mini road trip. It just dawned on me that you probably cannot do weekdays because of work...
Week after is no good, I'm working straight through and then I'm going to NYC...
DeleteSo... October? :P
Um, EW... clown dude is so super creepy.
ReplyDeleteMan, I haven't been to Montreal in so damn long! Those photos look beaut!
Yeah, when I saw him on the street, I was like, "OH MY GOD HE IS SO FUCKING SCARY." And then I was like, "I need to take a picture of this horror."
DeleteYou should make a trip to Montreal sometime. :) It's a really nice getaway that's just far enough from Toronto to feel like an actual trip but close enough that it's not super tiring to get there.
My landlord is from Quebec and he's crazy about Poutine so I hear about it all the time. Looks yummy :)
ReplyDeleteI want to go to Montreal :(
You should definitely go to Montreal, if only to eat the glorious poutine and smoked meat sandwiches...
DeleteAnd while you're at it, come visit Toronto, too!!!
