This coming Thursday, MAC will release a new collection in collaboration with Marilyn Monroe. This launch features a total of 29 products — 12 of which are new and limited edition, 12 of which are permanent, and five of which are re-promotes. Marilyn Monroe sees the release of one shade of Beauty Powder, which is new and limited edition. Beauty Powders can be used as a highlighter, a soft blush, or an overall finishing powder. Each Beauty Powder comes in a limited edition glossy black mirrored compact featuring a photograph of Marilyn Monroe from The Black Sitting, photographed by Milton Greene in 1956, as well as her signature and the MAC logo in red. It comes with matching secondary cardstock packaging featuring the same design, as well as Marilyn Monroe's lip print and beauty mark on the inside flap of the box. Each Beauty Powder contains 10 grams of product, and retails for $34.

Forever Marilyn

Forever Marilyn is a pale pink-tinged peach in a satin finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft but powdery texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered easily but it does take on a more chalky look as you add more. There is nothing really similar in MAC's permanent range; it is more peach than Light Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, and much lighter and more pink than Stay By Me Pro Longwear Blush.

I can't see this working as anything but a highlighter on all skintones, except those with very fair, porcelain complexions, in which case it might work as a finishing powder. On my skin, it looks almost white. It's just too light to be a blush on anyone, though it can be used to soften and blend out blushes. For those who want a less shimmery or frosted highlight powder, this may be a nice option, but it will appear chalky and ashy on many skintones, especially medium-dark to deep-dark. It is not a must-have, but people will buy this simply because of its collector's item status. This will undoubtedly sell out within the first day of launch, as it is already sold out online.

  1. Yeah, it was sold out Thursday during lunch by the time I got there (The Bay at Eaton Centre). I'm intrigued by the idea of a non-shimmery non-glittery highlighter but wouldn't have bought it anyway. Afraid it would look chalky like you said.

    1. Apparently, Eaton Centre and Yorkdale both had massive line-ups right at opening. But I think every store in the GTA was sold out of most items by the end of Thursday. This product will definitely appeal more to the collector than to the person that actually wants to use this product for its purpose. :P It's not too pale/chalky if you use a fluffier brush, though.
