Shawn, Vito, and I made our annual trip to Nuit Blanche this past weekend. I forgot my camera at home (I know), and used Vito's iPhone 4 to take pictures instead ('cause the iPhone 3GS just doesn't cut it in the dark).

4:00am snack: Tiny Tom doughnuts!
Not pictured: Salted Caramel Mochas from Starbucks for caffeine, chocolate-dipped soft serve cones at Nathan Phillips Square (we like to eat ice cream when it's cold, apparently), The Feast of Trimalcho at Queen's Park, eating pan-fried crickets at Hart House (tasted like deep-fried shrimp), cinnamon apple ciders from Second Cup to keep warm at 2:00am, Bollywood Cinema Showcards at the ROM, feet hurting from not wearing proper walking shoes, feeling proud that we walked through all the Zones, falling asleep on the subway, getting home at 6:00 in the morning.
I skipped it... Wasn't feeling well that day and it was really cold out, so I stayed in.
ReplyDeleteHow were the art installations this year? I feel like Nuit Blanche has morphed into an all night street party over the years which I kind of like lol.
Haha, Nuit Blanche isn't really about the art anymore, is it? It's sort of just an excuse to stay out late all night and explore downtown when everything's usually closed. The art installations were okay, nothing spectacular, but it's always fun to look around. It was pretty damn cold out, but we were all prepared in our winter coats, so it wasn't too bad. :) I'm rarely ever downtown, so it was nice to walk around, either way.
ReplyDeleteI find Nuit Blanche a bit overrated. It's full of drunkies everywhere now! I'm glad you made it to all three zones though... I think you're the first person I've heard of ever doing that!
ReplyDeleteAnd whoo TINY TIM DONUTS!
Hey, Sydney -- Nuit Blanche is TOTALLY overrated. A lot of the "art" is pretty mediocre/not of interest to me. I mostly went for the exploration and the walk, and just getting out of Markham, lol. And delicious street meat. Believe it or not, there are no hot dog vendors in York Region...
ReplyDeleteTiny Tom doughnuts are ridiculous. I could easily eat 24 of them in one go. :(
