I got my Julep Maven box in the mail last week! (I sort of totally forgot to post about December's box. Whoops. It included a bottle of Helena nail polish, some emerald green loose nail glitter, as well as some nail appliqués that I wasn't very excited about.) I get the "It Girl" box every month, and January's included three fun new shades of nail polish from their Spring collection, as well as a bonus bottle of their Nail Therapy (for being one of the first 5,000 Julep Maven members — apparently, we had a choice of nail colour as a bonus, but I totally missed that option in my e-mail and didn't end up picking one, so they sent me their base coat, instead). The three shades I received were:
Hayden, Leah, and Megan
Hayden is a light neon peach cream. It goes on smoothly and evenly, with high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. This is really a one-coater, but two will make it perfect. Though I don't own it, this seems slightly lighter and brighter than Chanel June.Leah is a medium bright, almost neon, grass green with micro-shimmer. It goes on smoothly and evenly, with high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. This is really a one-coater, but two will make it perfect. It is darker and more intense than Misa Let's Go Green.Megan is a medium shimmery aquamarine-teal. It goes on smoothly and evenly, with high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. This is really a one-coater, but two will make it perfect. It's brighter and more teal than Butter London Victoriana.
As always, I am ridiculously impressed with Julep's formula. I have yet to have a nail polish from there that goes on poorly (e.g. uneven, streaky, bubbly, sheer). Leah and Megan are shades that are totally up my alley, whereas Hayden is a little harder for me to pull off. I'm not usually a fan of really warm shades, and this particular peach shade makes my hands look kind of... dirty? I reckon this would look great on more tanned skin, though, so maybe I will wear this during the summer. For those who are a fan of Chanel's June, Hayden may appeal to you. Overall, I really, really love this month's Julep Maven box, which is worth a whopping $58 USD! If you're a nail polish fanatic living in North America, you need to sign up for Julep Maven. It is a more expensive monthly beauty subscription box at $19.99 a month, but every product is full-size, and if you don't like what you see in your box preview, you can request a "shelf pull" and Julep will send you a list of other options you can choose from. Unlike Luxe Box and Glymm, I have yet to be disappointed with Julep.
I think Julep's formula and brushes are my favourite (along w/ Zoya). So easy to apply!
ReplyDeleteHaha, Sydney, I think I have way too many favourites. I think Julep's is the most consistent in terms of formula, but I also love Zoya, China Glaze, Chanel, Dior, and Butter London (most of the time -- they've recently come out with a few that I'm not that pleased with). :)

ReplyDeleteYeah, that orange/peachy shade is everywhere now. I think the one I like best so far is from Essie for their spring collection. But that's a tricky shade for the yellow skin.
Haha, Liz, I don't think I'll ever be able to reduce my nail polish purchases. :P I totally already ordered the two new Dior ones. They were way too pretty to pass up. And they're SCENTED. (I'm not sure if I actually care about the scented part, but it's kinda cool...)
ReplyDeleteOh, us yellow people. I can't carry that peach shade on my nails if my life depended on it. Ironically, I love peach shades on my face/lips/eyes. It's just this creamy light peach that... I don't know, I can't wear it. It's just bad news bears.
Oooohhh... Megan is so pretty! I think I'll try that Maven program sometime in the spring when I'm more flush. And, Fieran, I'm also into the bottle more than anything else!
ReplyDeleteHaha, Mary, not gonna lie, the packaging is what sucked me in... but now it's the shades and formula that are keeping me a member of their Maven program. You should definitely try it out -- $20 a month isn't so bad. ;)
