This coming Thursday, MAC will release a new collection in collaboration with Marilyn Monroe. This launch features a total of 29 products — 12 of which are new and limited edition, 12 of which are permanent, and five of which are re-promotes. Marilyn Monroe sees the release of four shades of eyeshadow, all of which are new and limited edition. Each eyeshadow comes in a limited edition glossy black pot featuring a photograph of Marilyn Monroe from The Black Sitting, photographed by Milton Greene in 1956, as well as her signature and the MAC logo in red. It comes in matching cardstock packaging featuring the same design, as well as Marilyn Monroe's lip print and beauty mark on the inside flap of the box. Each eyeshadow contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $25.
Clockwise from left: Preferred Blonde, How to Marry, Silver Screen, and Showgirl
Preferred Blonde, How to Marry, Silver Screen, and Showgirl
Preferred Blonde is a pale champagne white in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is warmer than White Frost, and slightly more white than Dazzlelight.
How to Marry is a pale slightly cool-toned white in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is very similar to Crystal Avalanche.
Silver Screen is a pale whitened silver in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a slightly drier texture, and goes on slightly patchy. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is lighter and more pigmented than Filament, and lighter and less blue than Electra.
Showgirl is a medium-dark greyed blue with subtle silver and purple shimmer in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is lighter and more grey than Contrast, and lighter and more silvered than Weathered Pro Longwear Eyeshadow.
Three of the four eyeshadows had lovely textures; though not as buttery as I've come to expect from Veluxe Pearl shades, they still went on smoothly with good pigmentation. The only shade I had slight problems with was Silver Screen, which was quite stiff, especially for a Veluxe Pearl, and needed a bit of layering to get full colour pay-off. That having been said, the only must-have for me is Showgirl, which ended up being more unique than I thought it would be. Preferred Blonde and How to Marry look nearly identical when applied to the skin, so it's really not necessary to get both. Plus, they have very close, if not identical, dupes within MAC's permanent range. I would pass on Silver Screen, since there are so many other silver eyeshadows with better textures and higher pigmentation. Like the rest of the collection, all four will surely sell out because of the limited edition packaging and collector's item aspect, but I'm kind of disappointed that MAC didn't release a bigger variety of shades — like, did they really need two white eyeshadows in this collection?
I swatched Showgirl recently and it's pretty but a bit too light for me. Though, I do think it would be an awesome eyeshadow for the icy-blue look.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches!
Haha, that's 'cause you're a dark blue girl through and through. :P You know, it would look nice on the lid, with Contrast or Thru the Night in the crease, and maybe Nehru or Carbon in the outer corner...
DeleteYou're very welcome. :)
Hahaha, I'm trying to not be a dark blue girl anymore. I skipped Chanel's Illusion d'Ombre in Apparition and I haven't bought the Pro Longwear in Thru the Night, yet :)
DeleteI do have Contrast and Nehru. Darn, now you're tempting me. Let's see what's left by the time I get to the MAC store when this collection is out.
LOL, break the habit, Fieran!!! ;)
DeleteShowgirl is gonna sell out the fastest, only 'cause it's the most unique of the four. I'm not sure how big Marilyn Monroe is gonna be over there, but it sold out in about an hour here. There's barely anything left in stores now, lol.
Just got back from the MAC store. Many of the lipsticks have sold out but I got Showgirl ;) I think I will wear it with Worldly Wealth or Bronze in the crease to warm it up.
DeleteI also have a slightly darker shade from the Peacocky range - Dandizette. Might combine it with that one.
YAYYY, so glad you got Showgirl! :D When I saw it, I was like, "Fieran would love this." LOL.
DeleteIt would look beautiful with Bronze for warmth, but if you wanted a full-blown blue smoky eye, Dandizette, Thru the Night, Contrast, and Deep Truth would all look amazing. :)
I liked the shadows the least, because I don't like stark whites and silvers for some reason. Showgirl is pretty, but I feel like it'd suit the cool colour types better.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with the stark whites. There's only so many white shades a company can release, ya know? And MAC has a lot in the permanent range already. Very disappointing range with this collection. Showgirl is surprisingly wearable for a blue shade because of the grey in it. It's not too blue so it's a nice gateway shade to wearing brighter blues. I do wish they released a brown or taupe shade with this collection, though, and maybe a soft champagne pink or something. LE SIGH.
