Today, MAC has released a new collection in collaboration with Marilyn Monroe. This launch features a total of 29 products —12 of which are new and limited edition, 12 of which are permanent, and five of which are re-promotes. Marilyn Monroe sees the release of five shades of Nail Lacquer, two of which are new and limited edition, one of which is re-promoted, and two of which are permanent. Each Nail Lacquer comes in a limited edition clear bottle featuring a photograph of Marilyn Monroe from The Black Sitting, photographed by Milton Greene in 1956, as well as her signature and the MAC logo in red. It comes in matching cardstock packaging featuring the same design, as well as Marilyn Monroe's lip print on the inside flap of the box. Each Nail Lacquer contains 10 ml of product, and retails for $21.
Rich, Rich, Rich, Kid Orange, Flaming Rose, Stage Red, and Vintage Vamp
Rich, Rich, Rich, Kid Orange, Flaming Rose, Stage Red, and Vintage Vamp
Rich, Rich, Rich is a medium antique gold micro-glitter in a Pearl finish. This is a new and limited shade, and is online exclusive. It has a fluid consistency without being too thick or too runny. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. It has high pigmentation and will reach opacity in two medium coats. It is lighter and less bronze than Soiree, and darker and warmer than Screaming Bright.
Kid Orange is medium bright orange-red in a Cream finish. This is a re-promoted shade from this February's Shop MAC, Cook MAC collection. It has a fluid consistency without being too thick or too runny. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. It has high pigmentation and will reach opacity in two medium coats. It is more orange than Shirelle, and more red than Morange.
Flaming Rose is a medium-dark red that leans slightly cool in a Cream finish. This is a permanent shade. It has a fluid consistency without being too thick or too runny. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. It has high pigmentation and will reach opacity in two medium coats. It is lighter and brighter than Rougemarie, and cooler than Shirelle.
Stage Red is a darkened berry red in a Cream finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a fluid consistency without being too thick or too runny. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. It has high pigmentation and will reach opacity in two medium coats. It is darker than Rougemarie.
Vintage Vamp is a dark burgundy red in a Cream finish. This is a permanent shade. It has a fluid consistency without being too thick or too runny. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. It has high pigmentation and will reach opacity in two medium coats. It is more red than Dark Angel.
Surprisingly, all the nail polishes from this launch had smooth, fluid consistencies with even application and good pigmentation. MAC is not known for their nail polishes, but these performed beautifully across the board. Flaming Rose and Vintage Vamp are permanent, so I would skip those for now unless you love the packaging. I've loved Kid Orange since its release with Shop MAC, Cook MAC, but there are a lot of dupes out there that are cheaper, and I also feel like it's more of a summer colour than fall. Stage Red is a gorgeous classic deep red that I think everyone should have in their stash, but it is also extremely dupeable. Rich, Rich, Rich is the most unique of the five, and is lovely to have if you're willing to shell out $21 for it, but as far as it goes, I think MAC has really priced their nail polishes way too high for what it is, especially seeing that designer brands like Chanel have priced them at only a few dollars more. Overall, there are no must-haves from these as there are far too many dupes saturating the market (you could easily find a similar shade from Essie or OPI at a fraction of the cost), but if you are willing to shell out the money, these all have lovely formulas.
The colours are really nice. I like Vintage Vamp and Rich, Rich, Rich. Shall definitely consider them. The collection is releasing on Monday here.
ReplyDeleteThese colours are lovely for fall! :) If you want Rich, Rich, Rich, it's only available online so you should check the MAC website for your country and see if it's available yet! Vintage Vamp is also lovely but is permanent, so you don't have to rush for it. :)
DeleteI love Vintage Vamp, too! Perfect for the weather right now.
DeleteOn a different note, I'm so happy that the formula's on point this time. I've tried a couple of shades by MAC in the past and was so so so so disappointed.
Yeah, seriously! Although I have found that most brands' best formulas are in their reds. I think it would've been a travesty if MAC couldn't get their nail polishes right for this collection...
DeleteI'm still surprised that they brought back a permanent nail polish range, lol.
I love these colours, especially Vintage Vamp. But the price is a bit much for MAC like you said.
ReplyDeleteDo you keep the boxes? I hate when the focus of the marketing goes to the box and not the actual bottle. How can you throw away the box when it has Marilyn's lip stamp on it???
I normally don't think too much of reds, but I love these colours as well. I rocked Kid Orange a lot this summer. But my favourite from this collection is actually Stage Red, even though it's not the most unique. It's like Viva Glam I in nail polish form. :) Vintage Vamp is a lot like Chanel's Rouge Noir (e.g. the old Vamp), but with a better formula (a one-coater!), so if you're gonna shell out that much, anyway, you must as well get the Chanel one. :P
DeleteI do keep the boxes in the hopes that I will make a collage of sorts one day... But I tend to forget so I have a massive drawer full of secondary box packaging, lol. I feel like they could have designed these differently 'cause I don't like how you can't really see the shade of the polish unless you like at the bottom. Lol, I actually like that all the boxes have a little Marilyn lip stamp on the inside. It's a nice touch. :)
