Shawn and I went to Day & Night yesterday, and took part in their Valentine's prix fixe menu:
Berry-vanilla punch (in lieu of wine)
Piping hot, freshly baked bread
Goose liver pâté on a water cracker with organic mixed greens
Fatty bluefin tuna belly sashimi with wasabi and soy sauce
Baby abalone on a bed of organic mixed greens
Lobster meat with mashed potato for the lobster bisque
Pouring lobster bisque on top of the lobster meat
Certified Angus rib eye steak on a bed of roasted carrots, zucchini, and potato slices
Certified Angus rib eye steak with beef gravy (close-up)
Freshly brewed house coffee (some of the best coffee I've ever had)
"Neapolitan" mousse cake (strawberry mousse, vanilla cake, and chocolate mousse)
Dinner was glorious. A little on the expensive side at $88 per person (to be fair, it does include a glass of white or red wine, but I don't drink), but Shawn and I decided it was worth it in the end. The food was just so damn good. Not a single thing I didn't absolutely love, and I maintain that their lobster bisque, which is freshly poured in front of you, is the best I've had in the city. And surprisingly, the tuna sashimi was tastier than the ones I've had at most Japanese restaurants. Of course, the rib eye, in its tender, juicy, meaty goodness was only made better by the delightful marbled pockets of fat which, let's be honest, makes a steak that much tastier. I've written about Day & Night here when I went with my mom for "Thanksgiving dinner," in case you wanted to see what else they offer, but regardless of the occasion, it is definitely worth the trek to Markham. Shawn and I are already planning out our next visit.
P.S. Shawn also gifted me the Wilfred leopard-print sheer wool scarf in a medium grey that I wanted from Aritzia. And then took me to see The Vow (during which I cried about three eight times), 'cause I was in the mood for a chick flick. And bought me popcorn. With extra butter. What can I say? Nice boyfriend is nice.
Except for the steak, the servings look so teeny tiny!! I can probably pop the lobster in my mouth whole! HAHAHA!
ReplyDeleteI watched the Vow last night too and I wanted to cry, but I didnt? I'm usually a sucker for tragic love stories but I just didn't like Channing and Rachel's chemistry. *shrugs*
LOL, that's sort of the point, though -- you wouldn't be able to eat that many courses if the portions were huge, right? I actually prefer eating this way, which is much more European... more dishes with smaller portions rather than one big massive portion. :)
DeleteHaha, I thought The Vow was cute. I thought they had okay chemistry -- nothing compared to McAdams and Gosling in The Notebook, but not terrible. I cried mostly because I'm PMS-ing, though... I can't help it. And when guys cry in movies? Oh, god, I'm done.
I have to say, you eat some of the best food on this planet :)
ReplyDeleteYour bf is a keeper!
Haha, RIGHT? I'm a lucky gal. :) But, to be fair, I totally picked the restaurant, LOL.
DeleteOMG YOU MAKE ME SOOOOOOOOOOOO HUNGRY!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLobster and goose liver pate, come to me!
LOL! These pictures make me hungry, too. :( Until this dinner, I hadn't had pate in about a decade. I forgot how DELIGHTFULLY DELICIOUS it was...
DeleteI'm like on the verge of tears, looking at this succulent steak again. LOL
DeleteLOL! Me, too, Liz. :(
DeleteIf I could make steak one of my main food groups, I totally would...
