So, remember that whole thing where I wanted to do a series of blog posts aptly named Sandwich Series? Wherein I post about all the sandwiches I eat at home because I don't cook (and refuse to learn)? That I was going to do every week? No? Well, it's going a lot slower than I thought it would be, but I haven't forgotten, okay?
As it's getting colder outside, I was craving a hot sandwich. There are only so many cucumber and avocado sandwiches I can eat, you know? So, I thought, yes, grilled cheese! I grabbed my rye bread and my butter (well, margarine) and my cheddar cheese. I got my pan out and started buttering the bread as it was heating up on the stove... and then I remembered that I had some turkey cold cuts in the fridge, and thought I might as well use it up before it expires. Can't waste the meat! So I pan-fried the turkey first, set it aside, and then went on to put my buttered bread slices in the pan. I put the turkey on the bread, added the cheese, and then plopped the other pan-fried bread slice on top (to seal in the heat so the cheese would melt, obvs). I think next time, I'm going to add some cayenne pepper for a little kick, but otherwise, it is one fine sandwich! And it didn't take more than seven minutes. Of course, this whole exercise has made me realize that my household is in severe need of bacon...
This looks amazing. I have a feeling you have a hidden cook gene ;)
ReplyDeleteOK, speaking of bacon, I have a good, quick recipe for Pasta with bacon and red pesto. All you need to do is fry onions with some bacon, then add in half a jar or so of red pesto (made with sundried tomatoes). Toss it with freshly cooked, warm penne or fusili pasta and eat. It's really good on a cold day.
LOL, it might be there, but it's REALLY REALLY hidden. :P
DeleteOooooh, that sounds so good... I may have to look into it... Or get someone to cook it for me, LOL.
I'm with Jubes on this - you did make a fab sandwich and you can definitely cook :)
DeleteLOL, thanks, Fieran. I'm glad you have faith in me, lol! :P
DeleteI think it's just that I'm too lazy to learn how to cook...
" I don't cook (and refuse to learn)"
ReplyDeleteLIESSS!! You just made a fab sandwich, you liar.
Your pants are totally on fire. BUUUSTTTEDDDD!!
You even double grilled your bread and fried up your turkey. Muahaha
LOL, who says "pants on fire" anymore? :P But thanks, lol.
DeleteOkay, I don't typically cook. Like, grilled cheese? Eggs? Instant noodles? It's technically cooking, but doesn't require much skill, lol. Once the prep time is more than five minutes, I'm like, "Fuck this."
Seriously, this is a lot more work than some "cooking", lol. I WANT TO EAT THIS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of cheddar do you use, btw? I love the aged stinky kind. :)
LOL, it was pretty good, I'm not gonna lie. And it also took way more effort than I typically take with sandwiches. :P
DeleteI use medium cheddar, typically, but will occasionally get old. :)
