Last meal of 2018: Hot pot at Sichuan Ren, which, despite the mediocre ratings, was surprisingly good! Even the service was good and, let me tell you, hot pot places are not known for service. I was also very pleasantly surprised by their playlist choices of Linkin Park, Green Day, Rise Against, and Queens of the Stone Age. It's just not what you'd expect from a hot pot restaurant, you know? Look at them, breaking the stereotype...

I will be spending the rest of the night doing a face mask and watching the entirety of MBC Gayo Daejejeon. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Makeup and Beauty Blog: Monday Poll, Vol. 557

on
This week's Monday Poll:
  1. Glittery lids or glossy lids? Glittery lids, all the way. I've never been a fan of glossy lids — the look of it, applying it, or wearing it.

  2. Uncomfortable shoes or underwear for NYE? Assuming I'm going out (which I'm not), I'd say underwear. I would be able to handle uncomfortable underwear for one night, but uncomfortable shoes is a form of torture, just totally unendurable for me. And the repercussions of wearing uncomfortable shoes is just brutal. It could wreck your whole body, to be honest.

  3. Ponytail or french braid? Ponytail. I've never been into French braids. It can look cool on other people, though.

  4. Grossest thing you've seen on NYE? It's been a while since I've even gone out on NYE... but probably a lot of vomiting when I used to go to house parties.

  5. Are you staying up 'til midnight? Yeah. Not necessarily because of the countdown to midnight thing, but because I haven't been in bed before midnight in like, a decade.

BTS at MBC Gayo Daejejeon: MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix) and IDOL

on

I woke up at 7:30 this morning to go to work so I was actually able to catch BTS performing "MIC Drop" on MBC Gayo Daejejeon. I was totally not expecting them to perform "MIC Drop" because it's not one of their current title tracks and they've been mostly performing "FAKE LOVE" and "IDOL" on all the shows this year. As much as I love those songs, it was really refreshing to see something different and I almost forgot how fucking badass they look for their "MIC Drop" stages. They also dropped a scroll that said, "BTS, many blessings of the new year, ARMY" instead of the usual mic which was a really cute touch. (Oh, and hello, J-Hope's forehead! I really hope we see more forehead on all the members in 2019... Their faces are too pretty to be covered up by bangs all the time, you know?) I did miss the countdown they did, but I conveniently took a bathroom break at work to watch their "IDOL" performance because I am nothing if not dedicated.

THE ONLY SONG THAT MATTERS RIGHT NOW (a.k.a. the song that will bring me into 2019).

I spent all day doing paperwork so it was only appropriate that I had an office burger.

Jimin — Promise (약속)

on

We were all anticipating Jimin's first self-composed song but he surprised all of us by dropping it today and it's already become the fastest streamed solo song on their SoundCloud. This, to me, is perfection — in the way that it conveys his thoughts and emotions, in the clarity and refinement of his voice, in the simple background of acoustic guitar that embraces the pain and sincerity of the lyrics. I love and appreciate all of BTS' vocals, but Jimin's range, tone, and colour have always been my favourite. Someone called this song a "surround sound paradise," and I couldn't have worded it better myself. This really, truly is the perfect ending to the year. Thank you, Park Jimin, for giving us this gift. It's beautiful.

Sitting alone, my thoughts are becoming bigger
Since when did you start causing me pain?
You yourself don't know
You are hurting, too, 'cause you're mine
I just wanna blow your mind

You are moving further away like this
I'm fine
Although I say it, the fact is
I might not be

I want you to be your light, baby
You should be your light
For no more pain
For you to smile

I want you to be your night, baby
You could be your night
So this night can be honest with you
You are hurting, too, 'cause you're mine
I just wanna blow your mind

You are moving further away like this
I'm fine
Although I say it, the fact is
I might not be

I want you to be your light, baby
You should be your light
For no more pain
For you to smile

I want you to be your night, baby
You could be your night
So this night can be honest with you

Now promise me
No matter how many times a day
You feel that you're alone
Do not throw yourself away

Stop here for just a while
Intertwine our pinkies
Now promise me

In case you're wondering why I bought those BT21 x Royche monitor figures when I don't have an actual monitor (I have a laptop), they were for my car dash. Looking at them makes me inexplicably happy. Because I have officially become one of those people. Next thing you know, I'm gonna have fucking bumper stickers...

Friday Five: Gone Finishin'

on
Friday, December 28, 2018
This week's Friday Five:
  1. As the year comes to a close, what are you looking back upon most fondly? Going to not one, but two BTS concerts on their Love Yourself tour. Seeing them live is truly a magical event. And being able to go to their soundcheck in Hamilton was a totally surreal experience. I won't ever forget it.

  2. What do you do with the end slices on a loaf of sandwich bread? Eat it. I like to toast them, add a little butter, a little cheese...

  3. What in your residence is approaching its last days? Hmm... I've been having some issues with certain electrical outlets in the house so it might be time to get them looked at by an electrician. Other than that, there are a lot of condiments in my fridge that need to be tossed out but I keep forgetting about them when garbage day comes around. I'm pretty sure there's salad dressing in there that expired two years ago.

  4. What would be an appropriate cherry on top of your 2018 in these final days? Watching BTS perform on MBC Gayo Daejejun on New Year's Eve. I started my year with BTS, and I will end my year with BTS.

  5. What (or who) has a fantastic tail? Park Jimin. God, look at those thighs, too...

BTS at 2018 KBS Song Festival: Just Dance, Euphoria, Serendipity, Singularity, Love, Seesaw, Epiphany, and FAKE LOVE

on

Okay, so I missed the KBS Song Festival live because, you know, it started at 8:30 PM KST and Korea's 14 hours ahead and I had work today. (The time difference is really quite inconvenient.) So I spent like, an hour watching replay videos and fancams. I already knew that they were going to perform their solo songs because the performance schedule was leaked, but man, they were so well done and I'm so glad that they were actually televised because the whole world should experience the talent and beauty of each and every BTS member. I've seen them perform the solos live during their tour and it's just a sight (and sound) to behold. And on that note, PARK JIMIN WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME.

BT21 Official Nail Sticker Let It Snow Edition Ver. 1 and Ver. 2

I tried to resist getting any of the BT21 makeup items. I really did. Mostly because I was on a makeup ban for the majority of the year, but also because I didn't know what they were like in real life so I was hesitant to spend so much money on them. But review and swatch videos started rolling out and they looked so good. And once I broke my ban a couple months ago, I was like, "Fuck it," and ended up ordering all of the BT21 x VT Cosmetics Lippy Sticks and both of the BT21 x Olive Young Tint Lip Balm Kits in Super Bright and Gentle Breeze. And I guess because I buy so much stuff from my BT21 merch guy, he included both packs of the new BT21 Let it Snow Nail Stickers as gifts, which was really nice. But I swear, that was my last parcel of 2018. (I say that fully knowing that 2019 is three days away, but still.)

It's funny that, despite not celebrating Christmas, I managed to get a bunch of Christmas presents this year. And it seems that the one thing all my friends, colleagues, and Secret Santas know about me is that I have an addiction to face mask sheets. And snacks.

BT21 x Royche Official Monitor Figure in Koya, Tata, RJ, Shooky, Mang, Chimmy, and Cooky

BT21 x Royche Official Cooky Wireless Silent Mouse and BT21 Official Cooky Mouse Pad

I opened up my other packages from Seoul today which contained all the BT21 goodies I ordered from my merch guy over the past two months. (I was saving this package to open up on Christmas. Everyone else gets to open presents on Christmas, so I thought I'd join in on it this year even though I don't really celebrate Christmas... and I already knew what was going to be in the package...) I got a bunch of items from their latest winter collection, including the standing plush dolls (I resisted the Halloween ones, but these ones were just too damn cute... plus, my merch guy gave me a discount 'cause I bought the whole set) and the big sherpa fleece blanket because I do a lot of napping and I needed a new blanket (I was using a big TNA beach towel that I got as a gift with purchase from Aritzia like, five years ago, and figured it was time to get an actual blanket). I also got two phone cradles (one for my desk, one for my bedside table), plus all seven monitor figures and a Cooky wireless mouse from the BT21 x Royche collection (and a matching Cooky mouse pad, obviously). Did I need any of it? Definitely not. Am I gonna consider everything as Christmas presents to myself so I feel less guilty? Absolutely.

I stayed up until 7:00 AM to watch BTS perform on SBS Gayo Daejun and don't regret a second of it 'cause it was basically a BTS mini concert.
